Ciao Rumors! Oggi per la rubrica Coffee&Books, sono felice di ospitare l'autrice che, con il suo libro Archer’s Voice (Dimmi che sarai qui), si è piazzata al 5° posto tra i Best Romance del 2014 su Goodreads, Mia Sheridan. Grazie a Vanessa Ceschin per l'aiuto con la traduzione.

Ciao Mia e benvenuta su Il Rumore dei Libri. Sono molto felice di poter fare due chiacchiere con te. Ti ringrazio da subito per la tua disponibilità.
Cominciamo con la prima domanda.

1.Chi è mia Sheridan? Puoi raccontarci almeno cinque cose interessanti che ti descrivono?

Sono una persona piuttosto noiosa! Ahah
1) Sono una mamma. Il più grande ha 12 anni ed il più piccolo ne ha 5 pertanto sono nella trincea della maternità!
2) Sono timida - Non mi piace essere al centro dell'attenzione in alcuna circostanza.
3) Sono una persona estremamente creativa - Amo decorare, ristrutturare mobili, organizzare feste, ogni cosa in cui posso esprimere la mia creatività!
4) Piango facilmente
5) Rido facilmente

2.Come e quando è nata la tua grande passione per la scrittura?

La mia scrittura è iniziata con una nota triste - avevamo appena perso il nostro quinto figlio- una bambina. Ho iniziato a scrivere come una sorta di terapia per aiutarmi ad esprimere alcune delle mie emozioni. Non mi sarei mai aspettata che qualcuno potesse leggerle.

3.Dove nascono le idee per le tue storie?

La mia ispirazione proviene da nessuno e da tutto! Sono stata ispirata da canzoni, immagini, e molto altro! Onestamente non ho soltanto una fonte di ispirazione. Cerco di prenderla dovunque posso! :)

4.Poiché in Italia fin’ora sono stati pubblicati solo i primi due libri della serie, potresti riassumerne in poche parole il significato per i lettori italiani e qual'è il messaggio all'interno di essi?

Ciascuno dei libri della serie The sign of Love  è ispirato in qualche modo ad un segno zodiacale. Qualche volta è una leggenda, qualche volta è la qualità di quel particolar segno. Ma in ogni caso, i miei libri sono storie che raccontano di due persone destinate a stare insieme.

5.Archer’s Voice è sicuramente il tuo libro più famoso ed il più atteso dalle lettrici italiane. Ti sei ispirata a qualcuno o qualcosa in particolare per scriverlo?

No. Archer è nato completamente dalla mia immaginazione. :) Ma ti dirò che è nato dal desiderio di scrivere di un eroe "differente" - qualcuno che non era perfetto agli occhi del mondo, ma era perfetto agli occhi di un'unica donna. Per me questa è la definizione del vero amore.

6.In quasi tutti i tuoi libri ma soprattutto in Becoming Calder e Kyland, tratti argomenti e situazioni molto particolari. Come mai hai deciso di affrontare certe tematiche? Che cosa ti ha ispirato?

Cerco di scegliere temi e luoghi che siano un po' diversi. Il mio scopo nello scegliere personaggi e luoghi insoliti è quello di dimostrare che se due persone sono destinate a stare insieme, riusciranno sempre a ritrovarsi, sia nei monti Appalachi che nel deserto dell'Arizona, sia che si trovino in una situazione di estrema povertà o sia che si trovino sotto il dominio di un sadico leader di una setta. Il vero amore è sempre più forte di qualsiasi circostanza esterna.

7.Qual'e' il tuo autore preferito e quali sono i libri che hanno maggiormente influenzato la tua vita?

Il mio libro preferito di tutti i tempi è Cime tempestose. Io amo veramente i classici. Ma leggo veramente di tutto. Uno dei miei autori preferiti, credeteci o no, è Stephen King!

8.Il tuo ultimo libro Grayson's Vow è una storia molto romantica ambientata nella Napa Valley, tra i
vigneti. Sicuramente lo stile e l’argomento trattato è molto più leggero e diverso dagli altri libri della serie. Come mai questo cambiamento?

Mi piace sperimentare un po' di tutto. In Grayson's Vow ho provato ad inserire un po' più di umorismo. Penso che alla fine della mia serie, quando avrò scritto di tutti e dodici i segni, ce ne sarà un po' per tutti i gusti. :) Alcuni amano le storie più pesanti che ti trasmettono tante emozioni, ed alcuni preferiscono l'evasione di una storia più leggera. Ho scoperto che quando una storia mi chiama, devo seguire la strada in cui mi portano i protagonisti!

9.Qual'e' il tuo segno zodiacale?

10.Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri? Forse un viaggio in Italia?

Mi PIACEREBBE venire in Italia un giorno!! Con quattro bambini piccoli, non so quando sarò in grado di poterlo fare, ma è assolutamente un mio sogno! :) Attualmente sto lavorando alla mia storia sul segno della vergine, e dovrebbe essere pubblicato negli US a marzo.

1) Who is MIA Sheridan? Tell us five interesting things that describe yourself!

I'm really pretty boring! Haha.

1. I'm a mom - My oldest is 12, and my youngest is 5 so I'm in the trenches of motherhood!

2. I'm shy - I don't like being the center of attention in any situation.

3. I'm creative in all sorts of ways - I love to decorate, re-do furniture, plan parties, anything where I can get my creative feet wet!

4. I cry easily.

5. I laugh easily.

2) When and why did you begin to write?

My writing started out on a sad note - We lost our fifth child - a baby girl. I began writing as a sort of therapy to help express some of my emotions. I never expected that anyone would read it.

3) How do you approach writing a series? What is your biggest source of inspiration?

My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere! I've been inspired by songs, pictures, you name it! I honestly don't have just one source of inspiration. I'll take it form anywhere I can get it! :) 

4) For the italian readers that are not familiar with the series, how would you summarize it? Is there a message in your novels that you want readers to grasp?

Each of the sign of love novels are inspired by an astrological sign in some way. Sometimes it's a legend, sometimes it's the qualities of the particular sign. But in every case, my books are stories about two people destined to be together.

5) Archer's Voice is probably your most famous book and the most anticipated  from italian readers. It's based on someone you know, or some experience of your life?

Nope. Archer came completely from my imagination. :) But I will say, that he came from a desire to write a "different" sort of hero-someone who wasn't perfect in the eyes of the world, but was perfect in the eyes of one woman. To me, that 's the definition of true love.

6) In all your book, especially in Becomin Calder and Kylan, you deal with themes and experiences very particular and unusual. Why did you choose to treat them? And what was your experience writing them?

I try to choose themes and locations that are a bit different. My point in picking unusual characters and locations is that if two people are meant to be together, they will always find each other, whether it be in the mountains of Appalachia or the desert of Arizona, whether their situation is dire poverty, or being under the rule of a sadistic cult leader. True love is always more powerful than any outside circumstance.

7) Who is your favourite author and what books have influenced your life most?

My favorite book of all time is Wuthering Heights. I really love the classics. But I'll really read anything. One of my favorite authors, believe it or not, is Stephen King!

8) Grayson's Vow, your last book, is a little bit more lither than previous books with enjoyable moments of lightheartedness. Why this choice?

I like to try my hand at everything. I tried to insert a bit more humor into Grayson's Vow. I think at the end of my series, when all the 12 signs have been covered, there will be a little something for everyone. :) Some enjoy a heavier story that induces lots of emotions, and some enjoy the escapism of a lighter story. I've found that if a story is calling to me, I have to follow the path the characters lead me on!

9) What is your zodiac?

I'm a gemini.

10) What’s next for Mia Sheridan? Maybe a trip to Italy?

I would LOVE to go to Italy someday!! With four young kids, I don't know how soon I'll be able to make it, but it's definitely a dream! :) Right now I'm working on my virgo story, and it should be out in the US in March.
